Minnesota Legislature Tweaks Responsible Contractor Act

The Minnesota legislature recently passed a bill amending Minnesota’s Responsible Contractor Act. Going into the session, contractor lobbyists knew they could not expect of the law to be repealed. Their goal was to reduce paperwork and make the law more workable. In the end, they were able to persuade the legislators to clarify parts of the Act and correct an issue posed by truckers. NCHRP REPORT 807

The Brooklyn Center Little League was facing thousands of dollars in fines. Two MAPA members were among the volunteers to help clean up the field. Barton Sand and Gravel and Bituminous Roadways volunteered their time and equipment to remove heavier materials. Read the full story here.

New in Research: Properties of Foamed CaptureAsphalt for Warm Mix Asphalt Applications, NCHRP REPORT 807

This report presents proposed AASHTO standard test methods for measuring performance-related properties of foamed asphalts and designing foamed asphalt mixes with satisfactory aggregate coating and workability. Thus, the report will be of immediate interest to materials engineers in state highway agencies and the construction industry with responsibility for design and production of foamed asphalts and foamed asphalt mixes for warm mix asphalt (WMA) applications. MnDOT Releases MnROAD Phase-II Research Report

Benefits of MnROAD Phase-II Research

This report summarizes the outcome of the many different projects that were completed during MnROAD Phase-II which began in 2007 and is now coming to a close. Detailed information is provided related to the cost of operating the facility, support from MnDOT Office of Materials of Research (OMRR), Minnesota Local Road Research Board (MN LRRB) as well as research funding from MnDOT and external sources. Inver Grove Heights Uses Porous Asphalt to Reduce Runnoff

Many Minnesota cities use rain gardens and other “green infrastructure” now to keep stormwater from polluting nearby lakes and rivers. But they are often small, neighborhood efforts. Inver Grove Heights, however, is putting that stormwater science to use on a massive scale at Argenta Hills, and it’s attracting national attention. Read the full story here.
