2020 Directory

2020 MAPA Directories are here

MAPA Members should all have received a directory in the mail this week. There was a printing error on the envelope, with a different logo on the return address.
Don't worry! These are actually from MAPA (Minnesota Asphalt Pavement Association) and not MAPA (Minnesota Association of Public Accountants).

Legislative Session

Legislative

The 2020 Legislative Session began last week in St Paul. This is the second year of the biennium, usually reserved for policy rather than passing a budget, although there may be a supplemental budget depending on the upcoming financial forecast. Along with the policy focus, there will very likely be a large bonding bill this year. Both parties have indicated a willingness to go beyond the $1b threshold, which has yet to have been crossed.

House leadership reports that their focus will be on paid family medical leave, insulin affordability, and new gun law legislation as well as robust bonding bill.

Senate leadership will prioritize health care in the way of pharmaceutical transparency, transportation funding through the bonding bill, and education through promoting school choice.

This session, MAPA will be focusing on transportation funding as well, whether through the bonding bill or laying the groundwork for a bigger funding infusion in 2021. Workzone safety through automated enforcement in workzones, and common sense adjustments to the wage theft law will also be priorities.

MAPA’s 2020 Legislative Platform can be seen here.

Minnesota Truck-Weight Education Training with MN LTAP

MNLTAP

These workshops teach attendees how to haul the most legal weight without violating truck-weight laws. The workshops explain road weights during various times of the year, including the winter load increase and spring load restrictions. How trucks are configured — with proper axle spacing and tire size — makes a difference.

Professional, easy-to-understand take-home materials to assist you with your own configurations and options will be provided. The program is updated as needed to reflect changes in truck-weight legislation.
