MAPA Partnering Award

MAPA would like to recognize projects that have shown successful partnering between MnDOT and contractors. MAPA contractor members may submit a project to be awarded at the Annual Awards Banquet (date TBD). The MAPA board will review the submissions and determine the award winners.

What is Partnering?

Partnering is the process of creating a cooperative team by resolving issues in a timely manner.  This helps to ensure project value is retained. Disagreements during the project can arise. Project partnering helps to enable all the stakeholders to develop open lines of communication. All parties must be willing to openly discuss the issues and work to resolve them at the lowest level.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Projects must be substantially complete by October 13, 2017
  • MnDOT or State Aid project

2018-2019 MAPA/MSES Fellowship

The 2018-19 MSES/MAPA Fellowship was recently awarded to UMN graduate student Jhenyffer Lorrany Matias de Oliveira. Jhenyffer is pursuing graduate studies in the Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geo- Engineering and is advised by Professor Mihai Marasteanu. While pursuing her undergraduate degree in civil engineering at Pontifical Catholic University of Goais in Brazil, Jhenyffer took courses at UMN and was a research assistant in Professor Marasteanu’s lab, where she worked on low temperature properties of asphalt mixtures treated with bio sealants. This experience inspired her to continue her studies and to pursue her PhD. Jhenyffer’s goal is to increase her knowledge in materials studies and through her research to “create content with practical applications that can be used to solve problems experienced in the field.”

Progress In Motion: Building On Momentum For Success in 2019

Transportation advocates have increased our momentum tremendously in recent legislative sessions, despite a challenging environment with split control of St. Paul, and we need your support to keep transportation as a top issue at the Capitol.

We can’t let up now. We not only have to defend the statutory dedication of $145 million per year from the sales tax on auto parts, we need to push for the full dedication of $260 million each year and growing.

We need to do a few things:

  • Supplement our current strategies with a more complete (and modern) approach to government relations. Specifically, by investing in year-round in-district targeted grassroots, but also by forming and executing an independent political advocacy campaign via our newly-established Independent Expenditure PAC. This allows us to make transportation funding a voting issue.
  • Be prepared to operate very quickly after the election to react to the strong likelihood that the 2019 Legislature and Governor, no matter the configuration, will face tremendous pressure to pass a tax conformity bill, which could include transportation funding.

We need your help.  We need to raise $150,000 for work from now through the end of the 2019 Legislative Session.

Rail and port projects are included for information purposes. The STIP is developed/updated on an annual basis.
