Tack Coat Best Practices
At recent committee meetings, there has been concern regarding diesel contamination with tack coats. Diesel fuel is typically used to clean out the spray bars to avoid an uneven spray pattern. Members should be aware of the amount of diesel fuel being flushed through the system and back into the tank. Click here to view the graph showing diesel contamination tolerances related to the amount of diesel per 1000 gallons of tack. Contact your tack truck manufacture for additional information.
A best practices for emulsion tack coats is provided by NAPA. The publication is available here.
The MnDOT specification for tack coats is available here.
