National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) Open House

April 25-26, 2017

The National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) at Auburn University is celebrating 30 years of research, development and outreach to the asphalt paving industry. In recognition of this anniversary, a dinner and program will be held on the evening of Tuesday, April 25, and a guided tour of NCAT’s main facility and Test Track will occur on Wednesday, April 26. In addition to the main event, there will also be an optional golf outing on Tuesday, April 25 at the award-winning Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National. This event is an occasion to reflect on NCAT’s development and evolution and look back at some of the individuals and companies that have helped NCAT over the past three decades. For additional information and to register, visit http://ncat.us/openhouse. The deadline for registration is Monday, March 27.

Minnesota Truck-Weight Education Training

Each year, truck traffic is increasing in Minnesota. Recent legislation has changed some long-standing truck weight laws. Additional gross weights are possible for several commodities, providing the trucks are configured correctly and the additional weight is authorized by the governing road authority. The Minnesota Truck Weight Education Program addresses issues and concerns from state, county, city, and township transportation authorities regarding truck weight. The program explains road weight regulations during various times of the year, including the winter load increase and spring load restrictions. Click here for more information.

MAPA Member Updates

American Engineering Testing, Inc.

In the 2017 construction season Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is requiring Paver Mounted Thermal Profile (PMTP) and Intelligent Compaction (IC) technologies on several traditional and cold recycled asphalt pavements. Starting from this year, contractors will also be required to complete the processing of IC/PMTP data using the VETA software and compile the MnDOT forms (IC-108, PMTP-101 and PMTP-102).

Contractors will need to equip their machines with PMTP and IC systems and have MnDOT certified operator(s) tasked with live monitoring, managing, analyzing and reporting of the PMTP and IC data on a daily basis (during production days).

AET has several MnDOT certified operators that can assist contractors in managing and analyzing IC and PMTP data using the VETA software. Contact Eyoab Zegeye (ezegeye@amengtest.com) for more information.
